The Most Creative Textures In The World
We’ve been using 2 Lil Owls textures in our own work for over a year now. They’re hands down our favorite textures of all time. Keep reading to find out why, and see how 2 Lil Owls’ biggest ever texture bundle can help your creative work. You don’t want to miss this one!
Textures Created For Designers Like You
Usually we’ll always avoid calling a product ‘the best’, as we realize how many fantastic products are out there. However, in 2 Lil Owls’ case they really do set the bar when it comes to texture design.
Rather than supplying basic close-up photos, each of their textures is hand-crafted as an individual work of art. Each texture combines expert photography with the artistic direction, care and attention of designer Denise Love. Denise spends a huge amount of time ensuring each texture is perfect, and will often layer up multiple photos, brushes, scans, effects, colors and masks to create a superb end product.
The result? Textures that are rich with depth and detail. Textures that do the hard work for you. You won’t need to tweak and manipulate these textures to make your work look great. You can just drop them into your projects and take your designs to a whole new level. Take a look at how beautiful they are, and see why we love using them so much in our own work!
Carnevale Texture Pack (45 Textures):
Hand-Crafted, Beautiful Detail In Every Texture
You can tell the love and care that’s been put into each one of Denise’s textures. She ensures that each texture is a work of art, rich in detail and design. Each texture is over 3500px wide, making them perfect for your print work. Take a look at how great they look at higher res:
Integrate The Textures Into Your Designs in Seconds
These textures are all incredibly easy to integrate into your design projects. Simply paste them in, and then adjust the blend mode and opacity and ‘voila!’ a beautiful new overlay or background for your piece.
Crackle Texture Pack (20 Textures):
Creative Masks Texture Pack (30 Textures):
Endless Uses; Inspiring Your Work For Years
One of the best things about 2 Lil Owls textures is how versatile they are. This bundle gives you such a huge array of textures, that you’ll constantly be finding creative uses for them within your design work.
Will you convert your regular photos into an authentic vintage outcome? Will you apply subtle scratches, noise and markings to your Photoshop work? Will you easily apply a tattered edge/border effect for your images? Will you apply stunning lighting effects and color bursts to enhance your graphic design work? Will you establish a beautiful painted style background as the basis for your composition?
There is a reason why we’ve been using 2 Lil Owls textures in our own work for over 12 months, and are still finding new uses for them in every project.

Authentic Surface Textures for Authentic Designers
The difference between an average designer and a great designer often comes down to attention to detail. So many textures are created within Photoshop, and result in a boring, lifeless outcome. Denise has sourced her textures from authentic, truly interesting surfaces. From old Victorian manuscripts, to tattered film transfers, this texture library will breathe new life and authenticity into your design work.
For the designer who cares about attention to detail, these textures are a gold mine.

Apply Your Textures to Multiple Photos Using Photoshop Actions
WHAT WE’RE CREATING:
We’re all agreed that textures can add depth and beauty to our photography and design work. However, what if you want to apply them to multiple photos, or even an entire photo album?
Luckily, using Photoshop we can apply textures to as many photos as we want in seconds, by using Photoshop Actions and Batch Production.
This isn’t as intimidating as it sounds, and I’ll walk you through the basic steps needed to achieve multiple texture application.
We’ll be using one of the incredible textures from this week’s deal:
Let’s get started!
If you’ve grabbed the 2 Lil Owls texture bundle, then you can open it up, and select a suitable texture.
I’m using the Carnevale 2 texture, from the Carnevale Fine Art textures pack.
Here’s a look at the texture we’ve just opened:
With your texture document open, go to edit>define pattern.
Name your pattern and click ‘OK’.
Locate a folder containing the photos that you want to apply your texture to.
In this case, I downloaded the following images of flowers and placed them in a folder, containing only these images:
Open up the first photo within Photoshop.
Time to start creating our action.
Go to windows > actions.
When the actions panel pops up, click on the icon to ‘create new action’.
Name your action something relevant. I went with ‘flowers-texture’ and then hit ‘record’.
With your action now recording, go to your layers palette and click on the icon for ‘create new fill or adjustment layer’.
Select ‘pattern’ from the list of adjustment layer options:
When the patterns box pops up, your newly created pattern should be active automatically.
Adjust the scale if necessary. I shifted my scale to 36 to fit the canvas better. Click ‘ok’ to apply the pattern layer.
To make the effect work best, you should ensure that the photos in your photo album are all similar size.
On your pattern layer, select the layer blend mode to ‘overlay’.
Then reduce the opacity of this texture layer until you’re happy with the result. I reduced it to 60%.
Here’s the result of the texture application:
With your action still running, go to image > save as and save the image within your original photo album folder. It will most likely save as a ‘copy’ of the original, rather than trying to over-write it. This is fine, as you will retain the original photo.
Once you have saved your textured version of the photo, return to your actions panel and click the ‘stop’ icon, to complete your action.
Now we want to apply our new action to our entire photo album. To do this, we will use Batch Production, a really handy feature of Photoshop for applying actions to multiple images.
Start by going to file>automate>batch.
Your action should automatically be selected next to ‘action:’ as it was the last one created. If not, you can easily select it using the drop down list.
Under ‘folder’ select ‘choose’ and select the photo album which you want to apply your texture to.
After clicking ‘OK’ on your batch, you should see the photos in your album open automatically, one by one within Photoshop. You can sit back and watch the textures be automatically applied over each texture and then resaved within your photo album folder. Genius!
Here’s a look at our final textured photos:
Well done on making it this far! You now know how to apply textures to multiple photos and entire photo albums.
If you want you can take this method a step further. Experiment with adding further textures whilst your action is recording. Tweak saturation, levels and other variables. You can make your actions as complex as you want, and achieve some really amazing results!
AND WE’RE DONE
You can view your final outcome below. We hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and would love to hear your feedback on the techniques and outcome.

How to Use Textures to Make Your Photos Look Authentically Vintage
WHAT WE’RE CREATING:
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to use textures to build up an authentic vintage outcome. You’ll learn how to correctly manipulate and blend textures to achieve the best effect, as well as learning how effective it can be to layer up multiple textures and layers for a more unique outcome.
Let’s get started!
Follow along with this tutorial: Download the freebie + source file
This tutorial is accompanied by a fantastic freebie pack, taken from this week’s deal, offering you 270 of 2 Lil Owls best textures for just $20.
To give you a sample of the 270 textures on offer, we’re giving away 5 beautiful masked textures. Enter your email below to download the free texture pack, as well as the Photoshop source file for this tutorial, so you can follow along easily.
Start by downloading this image of two elderly musicians playing together.
Open it up in Photoshop. Resize the image to 1000px width.
This will be our base photo.
Apply a black/white adjustment layer to desaturate your photo in a non-destructive way.
Create a photo filter adjustment layer, and apply Warming Filter 81. Use the following settings:
Photo Filter Adjustment Layer Settings:
Filter: Warming filter (81)
Preserve Luminosity: Yes
Layer Opacity: 100%
Download the free texture pack available at the top of this page. This includes 5 beautiful 2 Lil Owls textures, not available for free anywhere else.
You will need these textures to follow along with the rest of this tutorial.
Download the free texture: Creative Masks 2 Set – Texture 3.
Paste it into your canvas and resize it to fit.
Now change this texture layer’s blend mode to ‘screen’. This will hide the black parts of this layer, just letting the lighter details show up. This will naturally lighten your image, but will give a lovely effect of the markings, scratches and creases enhancing your image, giving it a vintage appearance.
Return to your free texture pack (again, you can access this at the top of this page).
Select the beautiful texture Creative Masks 2 Set – Texture 8.
Paste it into your canvas, and resize it accordingly:
Again, set this texture layer’s blend mode to ‘screen’. This will hide the black parts of the logo, but still show the lovely vintage detailing.
TOP TIP: When working with 2 Lil Owls textures it’s really effective to layer up multiple textures to build up your desired outcome.
Repeat the same texture used in steps 3 and 4, to apply Creative Masks 2 Set – Texture 20 from your free texture pack:
By applying the screened textures the image is looking more vintage and damaged, but it’s also looking too light.
To fix this, apply an exposure adjustment layer, using the setting below:
Exposure Adjustment Layer Settings:
Gamma Correction: 0.66
You can see that these exposure settings taken a lot of the brighten out of the image, which is appropriate as we’re trying to achieve a more vintage effect.
Now apply a levels adjustment layer using the settings below:
Levels Adjustment Layer Settings:
11 / 0.85 / 255
This will help to darken your image and enhance the weathered, vintage look:
Time to add some more lovely textures to our image, to build up the vintage effect even further.
Access your free textures pack (taken from the top of this page).
Paste the Creative Masks Set 2 – Texture 29 into your canvas and resize accordingly:
Rather than setting this layer to ‘screen’ mode, we’re going to try a different effect.
Change the layer blend mode to ‘hard light’ and reduce it’s opacity to 13%.
To apply a final vintage touch, we’re going open the final texture from today’s freebie pack.
This texture is taken from the awesome Transfers pack, available as part of our current 2 Lil Owls Texture deal.
Paste the Transfer Texture Collection – Texture 1 into your canvas:
Change this layer’s blend mode to ‘soft light’ and reduce it’s opacity to 50%:
Congratulations! You’ve just achieved a really authentic looking vintage effect.
Now…. what if you want to apply this vintage effect to more than one photo?
Well, because all of the techniques in this tutorial have been non-destructive, it’s actually incredibly easy.
In the image below you can see the layer arrangement. I really advise downloading the freebies from the top/bottom of this page, as we’ve included the Photoshop source file for this tutorial. This is a really easy way to follow along and edit some of the effects yourself.
In your layer order you can see ‘Photo 1′ selected. To apply the same vintage effect to alternate photos all you need to do is paste them into your canvas and ensure that the new layer is positioned beneath all of your adjustment/texture layers.
You can see in the image below where layers ‘Photo 2′ and ‘Photo 3′ are positioned:
I was apply to apply the same vintage effect to these additional photos in 5 seconds flat.
AND WE’RE DONE
I really hope that you enjoyed this short tutorial. This vintage effect can be applied to almost any photo, and is really versatile. Have fun with it, and enjoy your freebies pack.
