Over the last few months, thanks to Covid-19, the rest of the working world has discovered what many freelance designers already knew: Working remotely is very liberating.

Just because you have a passion for graphic design, doesn’t mean you have to take a full-time job at an agency or in-house at a corporation to be successful as a designer. Thousands of freelance designers around the world are proving you can live anywhere you want - or indefinitely travel the globe - and still do work you enjoy. That’s because remote graphic design jobs have never been easier to find and secure for yourself as a freelancer.

But how can you know which sites are worth spending your time on to find remote design jobs? Today, I’d like to share with you 5 of my favorite sites for finding remote design work, though there are plenty more out there!

5 Top Online Job Boards for Freelance Graphic Designers

1. Upwork

Not only is Upwork probably the biggest freelancing marketplace in the world, but it has also come a long way since the early days when it felt like all you could find were cheap, discount clients who treated you poorly.

Lots of designers are making a good full-time freelance living with sites like Upwork where they’re automatically connected with fresh clients on a regular basis.

2. Dribbble Jobs

You’ve probably heard of Dribbble - a community where designers can showcase their best work. In addition to being a thriving community, Dribbble also has a job board that regularly posts new remote graphic design jobs. Just filter by location (choose “Anywhere”) and then select whether you want a full-time, part-time, or contract position.

3. SolidGigs

If you find yourself strapped for time, you may want to consider a service like SolidGigs that will hunt down and find quality design jobs for you. The team at SolidGigs combs through dozens of job boards every day and sends you the top 1-2% of freelance design jobs (and others) so you don’t waste time hunting yourself.

4. FlexJobs

What’s really nice about FlexJobs is you can filter design jobs by any number of criteria. These not only include the specific design specialties you want to search for (graphic design vs. web design, etc), but also remote working conditions, time commitment, and more.

5. We Work Remotely

Another site that posts new remote design jobs on a frequent basis is We Work Remotely. While you may find more jobs in the UX or product design fields, it’s still a good one to bookmark.

5 Top Online Job Boards for Freelance Graphic Designers

Succeeding with job boards

As with any method for getting graphic design clients, finding work using job boards will take some effort. You'll need to fill out applications and forms to apply for some of these jobs, as well as reach out personally and nurture relationships in order to close deals. But for most freelance designers, the effort is totally worth the result. Not only can you make good money as a graphic designer working remotely, but you can live and work from anywhere in the world!
