During this webinar, we were joined by Jimbo and Tea from ShoutBAM!, who were with us to deliver their top tips and tricks for their newest Procreate product, The KickOff Lettering Toolkit.
Although Jimbo and Tea have been designing packs with us since May, it wasn't up until recently that they decided to combine their love for fonts and brushes to create a tool for all aspiring letterers. This tool - The KickOff Lettering Toolkit - teaches designers to letter from the ground up and create their own masterpieces, step by step.
1. Contents
With almost 140 pages chock full of worksheets and tips, the Toolbox was too comprehensive to cover in a 1-hour webinar, but Jimbo and Tea did what they could to guide us through the essentials.
2. Brush Pen Strokes
Jimbo and Tea started off by covering the basics of strokes using their custom brushes. With their practice worksheets, they demonstrated how they get the desired stroke length and consistency.
3. Lettering with Brush Pens
With a range of brush pens readily available in this Toolbox, they used the letter 'r' as an example to guide us through the process of lettering with heavier strokes.
4. Lettering with Pencils
Just as important as knowing the fundamentals of brush pens is acquiring the ability to use pencil brushes. Jimbo and Tea have included worksheets so that you can practice advancing from the skeleton of the letter to the final product. In the webinar, they showed us just how to do that with the capital letter 'b'.
5. A Touch of Personality
If you've ever seen ShoutBAM!'s lettering, you'll know that their designs are full of life and personality. So it's only natural that they've included many nifty "twists and tricks" to help make our lettering more fun!
5. Serifs Up!
No lettering design is truly complete without a good serif. As some of the best letterers out there, Jimbo and Tea couldn't pass on this opportunity to teach us how to give our artwork some creative flair.
