Grid Builder – Layout Composer

Creating stunning lettering layouts has never been easier!

Grid Builder – Layout Composer

Something that I struggle with and I know you guys do to, is laying out a great composition within your lettering work. You have the quote or words you want to use, you know the style, but you just get stuck with how to lay it out, so it doesn’t look like letters just thrown onto a page.

So together (Stefan Kunz and myself) we thought about how we could produce something that could make this process as easy as possible, but still giving you guys the tools to create completely unique pieces of art.

That’s when we came up with Grid Builder. A set of 35 individual grid shapes that you can place together to act as guides when creating your layouts. They can be resized, stretched and recolored so that every layout you compose will look completely different from the next.

What’s more, they work in nearly all of the top lettering programs. Brushes in Procreate, Custom Shapes & Brushes in Adobe Photoshop and drag & drop Symbols in Adobe Illustrator. So whether you have an iPad, Surface, Wacom or Desktop Computer there is an option that can work for you.

Want to use it with your pens and pencils? No problem, compose them in one of the above programs and print it off!

Want to use it in a program not listed below? Use the Grid Builder font in apps like Keynote, Powerpoint, CorelDraw, Canva, anything that has the access to fonts.

Hi there! I’m having a little trouble getting all of the brushes to import into Procreate. Looks like they downloaded and unzipped fine, but not all of them will install. Can you please help?

    • Zack Parks

      Hey Katenik,

Thanks so much for getting in touch and I am sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with your procreate downloads. Rest assured I can certainly help with this and I have just popped you an email to help with this!

Hi! I am unsure if I should acquire the grid builder, since I have no ipad nor do I use adobe. I am wondering if this will work in Inkscape or if I would be able to run it on my desktop (windows)on it’s own without using another type of software

    • Zack Parks

      Hey Patricia,

Thanks so much for getting in touch with us and it is so great to hear that you are interested in picking up the Grid Layout Composer. With Inscape you should be able to use PDF, AI and SVG file types, so this means that you could be able to use the Illustrator files and the SVG files. I hope this helps you with your decision to pick up the Grid Builder – Layout composer :)

Hi, Annabel. Could I also ask for the email instructions for using this with typed text? I bought this back in June and have experimented a bit using smart objects and warp, but would be really interested to know how you do it. :)

    Thank you much. :)

Of course, it will be my pleasure to help and you should see an email from me really soon :).

I am having trouble importing the brushes into Procreate after following the provided instructions. Does this brush pack require an iPad Pro?

    • Annabel Smith

I was looking forward to using this but did not know it was for just hand lettering since I read that this could be used on a desktop. That led me to believe I could use it with fonts also. I don’t do hand lettering. Maybe something should be added to the description to make this more clear.

    • Annabel Smith

      Hey Gail,

I am really sorry for any confusion over the Grid Builder. This pack includes layout grids, which can be used in most design software, even desktop versions so you can definitely use them on a desktop computer. These layout grids have been created with hand lettering specifically in mind, so I have just popped you over an email to get a little more information about what you are hoping to create.
