The Creative Journey is a unique insight into how to build a creative business from scratch. Follow along as Jo Fallon shows the Design Cuts community the ups and downs of starting her business The Cotswold Chalkboard.
In episode 17 of the Creative Journey, Jo gives us another insight on the product she is creating with Design Cuts and talks about the importance of clarifying the brief with the client before starting a big chunk of work. She mentions that she wasn’t sure about what signage meant, but she clarified this with our product curator Lizzy and made sure she was on the right track before she started drawing a lot of sign posts.
Later in the week, Jo found some specks of chalk dust on the scanner, from all the previous scans she’s done, and has the brilliant idea of adding a clear black board over these and scanning them into a texture, which we think turned out very well.
Towards the end of the week, we get to see a very unwell Jo as she comes down with a bad cold. She mentions that this came at the worst possible time as she has a lot on her plate, with the Design Cuts product and other client work too. Luckily by Monday, Jo is feeling better and gets back to work, but is bit stressed that she has missed a couple of days of work and mentions that is always good to do the work when you can and try to never postpone it.
