Speckles & Noise

These jpg textures can be applied to anything from logos and illustrations to photos and artwork . In Photoshop , simply apply the texture on a layer above, and set that layer’s blend mode to screen. Doing this applies a subtle grunge noise effect. You can tweak the levels of the noise layer, if you would like to adjust more or less noise. You can even add multiple different noise layers setting all blend modes to screen for even more variety.

Included in the pack FREE are 15 Noise brushes created from these jpgs for using on your artwork in any way you wish! ENJOY!

Paper Pack: 30 Digital Papers

The Paper Pack: 30 Digital Papers is an amazing collection of digital papers that were made by scanning in top quality artisan art and handmade papers. I’ve found that using real paper scans over papers that are made 100% digitally tend to make a more authentic looking end result, and also allow for some really cool variance that organic processes tend to have over purely digital ones.

It is also important to note that all the different colors shown are actually different colored pieces of paper, and not just one color of paper re-colored digitally several times. Because of this, each different color has its own flavor of characteristics that will not be identical to other ones. I’ve found that minimally processing color digitally at the initial stage allows future digital color changes to look more realistic and natural.

Key Features:
• 30 Papers
• 23 Seamless Repeating Papers (made from the 30 full size textures)
• .JPG Format 15″ x 15″ @ 300 DPI (4500x4500px)
• Most seamless repeats are 250 x 250px (four are 500 x 500px) and .JPG format

Not all of these papers are included as small repeats suitable for web design, but 23 of the 30 are. The ones that I left out are due to the repeat simply being too noticeable, and I didn’t want to offer anything that I wouldn’t personally use in a design. The vast majority of the repeats are 250 x 250px, although 4 of them are 500 x 500px to help reduce the appearance of the actual repeat. The larger repeats tended to be the papers that were hand made and had a whole lot of interesting texture going on.

The characteristics of these papers range from very subtle paper textures to much more aggressive hand made papers that have some really unique characteristics to them. I tried to include a nice variety to play around with, so have fun!

Distress Texture Pack Vol. 1

The textures in this pack were created by hand using various methods (textured cloth, sandpaper, peeling apart plastic sheets…etc etc) then optimized in photoshop to be a crisp black and white without any texture of the original paper left behind. These textures are ideal for apparel design and all the letters in the cover image were created using different textures from this pack. 26 textures in total in 300 DPI .jpg format.

The Complete Vintage Design Arsenal

Distress Texture Pack: Vol. 2

The Distress Texture Pack Vol. 2 includes 30 high quality, high resolution textures that were all made by hand and then digitally perfected for use in your designs and illustrations.

Key Features:
•30 Textures
•300 DPI
•15″ x 15″ / 4500px x 4500px
•.JPG Format

Be sure to view the images at full scale to see the details of every texture a bit better. Please note that the swatches show the entire texture at a much smaller scale. These textures are BIG to be usable on your large format projects.

Vintage Writing 2 Brushes

Vintage Writing 1 has been retired, but oh what a find I have for you! These are just wonderful samples/fragments of old handwriting, which I have meticulously extracted to give you the best quality possible! Some are a little grungy. Some are post cards; some from letters; and others from handwritten books. Some are from the late 1800’s and some a bit later. Some are ornate and some just everyday writing, some are not in English, but I am totally, 100% charmed by all of them! Use them to add texture and interest to your projects – they add such a feel of intimacy! Can you tell I have a passion for all things vintage?

I just have to share with you the text of one of the items included:

“Mr. R. W. Wright Rome: We went to hear J. Caesar in the Forum today but he had such a small audience he refused to speak and the Romans wouldn’t give the money back at the box office. That’s the way Rome does. We greatly enjoyed your letters today especially the latest bulletins. Lee is such a big man in Rome the togas are too short. We are trying to take your advice and do as Rome does but it generally does us first. With Love to all M & L, 5/15 – 1908”

The writer’s sense of humor reminds me of my own Father!

Includes: 15 Photoshop Brushes (abr) + companion pngs.

Rolled ink textures volume 01

These rolled ink textures were born from a desire to have a set of ink textures at hand. The textures have been created with black ink and rolls (one foam roll, and one rubber roll).

The type of effects obtained ranges from subtle noise to heavy smudges, and can have a variety of applications: noise pattern, background color, ink wash, rough borders, and more.

The textures have been scanned in very high resolution (5000 x 7800 pixels on average) @ 800 dpi or more.

Leather billfold texture pack

These worn leather textures have been extracted from two leather billfolds that my wife and I own. They’re pretty big (an average of 4553×5975 pixels), and have been scanned at either 1200 or 2400 dpi.

There are two different leather grains in the pack, and a total of six leather textures. As a bonus, I also extracted two textures of the grainy fabric that’s used to line the inside pockets of the billfolds. This makes for 8 textures total.

The leather of both billfolds is worn, as these are the ones we use on a daily basis. The pack works wonders to distress design elements (just paste one of the texture in a layer mask). As a matter of fact, the copy on the hero shot for the product has been weathered using one of them. You could also use the textures as part of the texture build-up for a background.

The Complete Vintage Design Arsenal

Dirty plastic noise texture pack

These noisy and dusty textures come from an unlikely place. You know these little plastic pockets in billfolds to hold extra credit and ID cards? Well, now you know.

I’ve had that leather billfold for a while. It’s old, and all worn out. It’s been at the bottom of countless pockets and bags. And it has accumulated a lot of dirt, dust, and other lint particles.

I pulled out these little plastic pockets, cut them down in flat “sheets,” and scanned them at very high resolution (on average 5250×7400 pixels @ 2400 dpi). These textures are the result of that scanning process.

The pack contains 4 variations of each textures:
– Black speckles on black (JPGs)
– Black speckles on transparent background (PNGs)
– White speckles on black (JPGs)
– Transparent speckles on black (PNGs)

Put them on Screen or Multiply, and noise things away. Add a specific color overlay, and add subtle speckles to your backgrounds. Paste them in your layer masks for subtle weathering.

Many of the projects in my portfolio use Design Cuts resources (even if the title doesn’t directly state that). In addition to the standard print/web work though… here are links to some of the other ways in which I’ve used my bundle goodies. Maybe they will help spark ideas for others :)

    I see it a bit differently….

(My goal here is to engage in discussion, and not to become a source of division or conflict with anyone.)

Even with the items I already own, more than half of them would be new additions for me. A few weeks ago I almost purchased one of the items included for the same amount as this entire bundle costs. I ended up purchasing something else and put that item on a wishlist. Lo and behold…. not only will I be getting that item, but a lot of other resources as well. So even though I will have some duplicates, I am still getting a fantastic deal on the items that will be new for me.

It is a simple matter of the odds here. Sooner or later, if DesignCuts keeps arranging for such wonderful deals on “best-selling” resources, there are going to be some of us who have already picked up some of those best sellers. That’s why they are best sellers to begin with. People are already buying them.

If I was paying twice or three times as much for the deal as I am, I would probably feel a little more frustrated that I already have some of the items, but I’m still looking at what would I pay for the items that would be new for me. That is what I make my final decision on in such situations.

For this current deal, I am still WAY ahead in terms of savings.

I do understand that others may not be getting the same level of benefit.

So my personal preference would be to stay with these all-in-one deals.

My concern with going to a pick-your-items type bundle is that there would be times where I find I want ALL the items and then would need to make two purchases. :-(

(I’d still get them both, mind you, but I would need at least 4 weeks in which to be able to do so. It’s a budget thing!) :-)

Whatever is decided for the future, I appreciate that you all seek to make sure that each bundle offered here at DesignCuts does not include items from previous bundles.

    • Roz Fruchtman

I don’t think I have any of these, there might have been one or two, I can’t remember as I looked first thing when it was released, that I was not as excited about in the bundle – I am only speculating as I believe I loved them all because I was looking for this type of bundle, but follow me here…

The thing is, most of us use Photoshop and/or Illustrator (Photoshop here, learning Illustrator), or perhaps you use Photohshop Elements, you might not think you’d use those one or two today, but I’d bet… they’d come in handy another day.

      – What I’d like to see is more examples of what Design Cutters are doing with them to spark my own imagination. Sometimes we have to see something to think: “Geez, I didn’t think I’d use that or I didn’t think I used that font or element or item, in that way ~NOW… I’m glad I got it!”

      – This happened to me with one of the font bundles a few font bundles back!
I was fairly new to Design Cuts and I passed up on one of the font packages. Then I watched a CreativeLIVE class on how to use “Open Type Fonts” in a FREE class on Fonts/Text, etc. with Khara Plicanic. The thing was… I had NOT understood what Open Type Fonts were until then or the difference between Desktop and Web fonts. All I knew was there was a “separate” price for the desktop version and ANOTHER price for the web version. I digress… One of the fonts in the class had been featured in the Design Cuts Font package I passed up.

I was ready to kick myself (but I was so upset I might have hurt myself) as I NEVER thought of using that font in the way it was used in the class. But… the font bundle was no longer available AND IF I purchased the font alone it would cost MORE than the ENTIRE Design Cuts Font Bundle I passed up ~A LOT MORE!!!

However… Design Cuts in THEIR WISDOM brought the font package back as an upsell (additional choice) when the next font package was offered and…
“What do you think I did?”

YOU GOT IT, I bought that font package I passed up on and was thrilled to death!

With all this babble, MY point, sometimes we need to see examples of how things are used! I realize this is not the same as having a duplicate version, but the value of the rest of the package is still better than buying one of the elements alone, which will cost as much or more as the ENTIRE Design Cuts Bundle.

I vote for the Bundles to stay, AND if Design Cuts chooses, they could have a mix’n’match as an ADDITIONAL offer in between.

There is TOO MUCH value in the Bundles to give them up in my opinion, but what do I know! I, for one, would be VERY SAD to see the bundles go the way they are! There are many that buy that might not be able to buy as often. We have different levels of success points here and while success is more times than not, NOT related to money, sometimes it is as success and budget go hand-in-hand for artists.

I hope this share was NOT out of line!

        Hey Roz,

Not at all, we always really appreciate your feedback.

I completely see where you’re coming from with the wanting to see how other Design Cutters use the resources. Whenever we do get a community creation through that relate to a currently running bundle, we always try to show it off, as we understand how important it is to see how certain elements could be used. This is also the reason why we offer the tutorials.

I’ve made a big note here though for us to give you even more examples and inspiration for how to use these resources. Perhaps quick ‘mini examples’ of potential outcomes would be just as helpful as the comprehensive tutorials that we publish?

Either way, I’ll speak to the team to see of there is anything we can come up with that will show our currently running bundles in more detail and in ways that spark more ideas of how to use them. :)

Thank you so much for your comment, Louis. I really like your idea and way of thinking, as well as your honesty. I can certainly understand both sides, and I really don’t think there is a right or wrong in this case. It’s really a matter of preference. :)

If we do decide to offer a pick and mix bundle it would most likely not be a decision that would affect the entire way we offer design resources, but simply a one off fun way of choose what you want. It would definitely be interesting to see what kind of resources people go for.

Yawn…these trendy pre-made hipster logo badges and design elements are everywhere these days. Designers should avoid trends, not embrace them so much.

I bought your last arsenal which included some cool fonts, but not really feeling this one because there are too many items not worth using. The textures are always handy however.

    • Tina Muller

      Hey Derek,

Thanks for your feedback. We totally agree that trends aren’t usually worth paying attention to, rather it’s the fundamentals of design are that are really essential.

However, beyond just being perceived as a ‘trend’, the vintage style logos are helping a lot of the community to create some really fantastic work that they may not be able to achieve otherwise. Whether the vintage trend passes or not, the hand-made artistry in these items do let people create some really great results.

We totally recognise that they may not be for you, and of course that’s totally fine. However, we carefully listen to which items will help our folks the most, and we always try to provide bundles that will benefit every members of our community and fit their needs.

Honestly, we really appreciate you taking the time to leave this feedback, and we’ve definitely made a note for future bundles. I hope you continue to enjoy the site, and that you’re getting great use from your new fonts :).
